He stands now just inches from the graduation finish line in his super senior semester at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA. Sure, some might refer to Nathan Ehrlich as a slacker, but they must be heartless bastards because it was the side effects from a Bone Marrow Transplant that he received in 2000 that slowed his academic progress. Nevertheless, he is confident that come this May he will graduate with a quintuple major in Chronic Headaches & Narcotics, Boston City Hospitals and Doctors, Pharmacology, Medical Marijuana, and American Studies with minors in both film and Journalism. Ehrlich first became interested in moving pictures between Brandeis semesters, when he took advantage of summer courses in video production and screenwriting at BU’s Film & Television department. He returned to Waltham with the technological know-how that is pertinent to independent production. Nathan then teamed up with his old high school companion, Arnon Shorr, and OxRock Productions to direct his first picture free from school accreditation, “Shattered Dreams.” Ehrlich expanded his knowledge of the independent film scene by interning for local documentary filmmakers Michal Goldman and David Sutherland. “Entering Exit Clov,” was Nathan’s next project in which he followed the start-up Washington D.C. band, Exit Clov, through the streets of N.Y. City and backstage in D.C. with Kanye West. Recently, Ehrlich and Shorr have banded together once again to produce “Mission: Remission", a first-hand perspective on the effects of Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT) shown through not only Ehrlich’s perceptive as a BMT patient, but through the insight of other BMT patients and the health care professionals who continue to practice this revolutionary, and often life-saving treatment. When he is not making movies, you can catch Nathan Ehrlich on Sunday nights at Boston’s Comedy Connection, but “rest assured,” his opponents say, “he will be a senior at Brandeis University for the remainder of his life. Graduation isn’t for everybody.” |
